The time has come for me to concentrate. Conference presentation due this week, progress report next week, lit review due, exams, and then my thesis to work on. *salutes* Hi-ho hi-ho and off to work I go! [ ] [ you all suck ]
[ Friday, September 26, 2003 ] [ 05:12 p.m. ]
The only thing to make worse my day of having a fever, a spinning head and an indecissive stomach ("shall I heave upwards or downwards?") was to also have a supervisor who in not so many terms hinted that I had to continue working for the upcoming the conference thingee. I would've vomited all over her equipment just to spite her, if I didn't know she'd make me clean it up afterward. Argh. All of you suck. I bet your stomachs work fine, don't they, huh? Quasi-birthday out thing on Saturday. Lunch at Amcorp (Fabs, San, Tan, Julie, Hani, Tj, Nina and myself), dinner at MidValley (Fabs, Hani, Tj, Nina, Lil and myself), midnight Pirates viewing (Fabs, Hani, Lil and myself). Fabs wore navy blue pants. Nina threw a hissy fit. Pooooooool! I beat Tj at pool! (“It's your birthday! It really is your birthday!”) Jan's hair was butchered. I upset San by talking about Identity. There was squid and cuttlefish and blackforest cake and little American flags in my 49ers. Later on, Lil actually fangirled herself into exhaustion. I merely got a sore throat. O_o The geekiness comes out... Like while we were walking to GSC to buy the tickets, I saw that the large advert screen outside was showing a very familiar trailer... “Is that Peter Pan? It's Peter Pan! Aaaaaaah!” So I ran toward it, Lil close at my heels. Heh. Then there was the scene at the movie shop. We giggled over the Pirates pin-ups while pondering whether we ought to buy it, much to the amusement of the saleslady. “You take Will, I'll take Barbossa, you get the main cast line-up, I'll take Jack...” “Who'll take Kiera Knightley?” “...” Alas, Ms Swann is unwanted. I have to wonder though... What kind of parents take their kids out to late-night movies? I felt like smacking the kid behind us that kept kicking the chair. Grr. Would've smacked Hani, too, for snorting really loudly during certain moments of the movie, but Hani's scary. I didn't get the jigsaw puzzle. Very sad. But I did get the Discworld Companion and a lovely little necklace. Very happy. ^_^ Thankies muchly. [ ] [ day after... ]

I think Nina and Jean called me when I was having a nap before the pre-grad dinner. If I dreamed it, just ignore the following, but if it really happened, to Nina: did I say I'd call you back? Because I keep thinking about Jean-Luc Picard for some reason, and that I had to touch that little communicator thing to call you, and when I remembered later I didn't know whether it was real or not. And to Jean: Thankies! You rock! The pre-grad dinner was a frickin' prom. Why doesn't anybody tell me these things? There was a very funky mat salleh dude who, by himself, attacked the dancefloor penuh semangat. Between that and watching my mates get drunk and/or get harassed by fellow mates who were already drunk, my girlfriends and I had more than enough entertainment from the sidelines. Me: Guess what? It's my birthday!

The first to wish me was my father, via SMS. I didn't have the heart to tell him that he'd gotten the day wrong. Heh. And it wasn’t like I was going to stay awake and count down the seconds, right? Me: Zzzzzzz… Mrrr-wha…? Half an hour later, I was still awake. Dammit. [SMS convo with a girlfriend.] Arriving at the labs, I found that I’m better at this screwing up exact dates thing than I thought. Me: Hey! Lil is insane. Me: Let's watch Pirates one more time. And... It’s my birthday and I get to embarrass Nina if I want to. [phone call]Pre-grad dinner later. Food’s gonna be bad, but the company’s gonna be good. ^_^ [ ] [ oh no... ]

I'm a moron. Tuesday night is the pre-grad dinner, Wednesday night is the dinnerdate at Chilli's, Thursday night is the graduation ceremony, but I forgot everything when: Supervisor: Can you go to UM on Tuesday to run the gel and pick it up on Wednesday?
Argh. It's going to be an exhausting week. [ ] [ stomach's growling ]

GOING TO TGIFRIDAY'S FOR DINNER! WOOOOOOOOO! I'M HUNGRYYYYYY! [ ] [ of balls n proms n such ]
[ Thursday, September 11, 2003 ] [ 06:31 p.m. ]
Spent five minutes wrestling eyeliner onto a housemate's resistant eyelids. She didn't really want to go to the Sunway Ball in the first place, but seeing that it was her final year and all, so blah. What's the order again? Eyeliner --> eyeshadow --> curler --> mascara? Or is it eyeshadow --> eyeliner --> curler --> mascara? Or something different entirely? Hmm. So while housemate #1 was primping, housemate #2 was all bouncy and excited, although she's not a Sunway student and isn't going to the ball. It was basically the same thing as last year, where my roommate was all excited about the ball while I was all blah. And the year before that when my previous roommate was excited about the ball and I was all blah. I'm so sick of it. I went to five proms when I was in school, and it never changes. Well, except for the one where they got Boyzone to come, but it was such a hoo-haa event that it wasn't really a school prom anymore, so that was kinda sucky too. Hmm, I shall review the stats... Number of times went to prom: seven (including Ausmat nite and last year's ball)
So basically, it's the company that makes it fun. Not the actual event. [ ] [ immediate future plans ]

The boys are going to a bigger Biotech conference in Penang in December, and I want to go. I won't have my own booth or anything, but Penang! Mutiara Hotel! And it'll be at student rates! Mmmm... The only catch is that if my (female) senior doesn't go, I'll have to stay in the same room as my supervisor (!!!!!!!!!!) which would be terrifying, to say the least. And then there's the matter of next year's graduation... Do I want to graduate all over again? [ ] [ dontwanna dontwanna dontwanna ]

It's normal practice for lecturers to send their kids to various workshops or conferences or whatnot. Well, my supervisor is sending me to a Biotech conference at Nikko hotel in about a month's time, where we'll be setting up a booth for my project. Eeeek. Which means I have to get at least 50% of my project results by this week. Wah liao. At least I don't have to make another presentation. I don't think I've quite recovered from the UM disaster. Hmm. I pulled a muscle in my leg on Saturday morning, but I'm still limping right now. Is that normal? [ ] [ the sat gathering ]
[ Tuesday, September 2, 2003 ] [ 08:01 p.m. ]
San's surprise birthday gathering was last Saturday. I'd been involved in surprise birthday things before, but not one that elaborate. Got the waitress lady in on it, too! That was fuuuuuuun. Although I did panic a bit when Yu San suddenly called me on my h/p while we were setting up things at the restaurant. Me: Yu San's calling me. Why is Yu San calling me? She's calling me what do I dooooo?! *picks up*
I panicked, so sue me. Fabian was very cool as our organiser, although he was the most stressed out of all of us. Guy wanted it to perfect for San. Awwwsh. ^_^ Anyway, Lil was the bait, bringing San to the restaurant for a normal lunch. Thanks to the management dudes who were in on it, they were seated at a table, and San was passed a menu that contained the b'day card in it. She opened it. The rest of us who'd been hiding at the side came out and made San speechless and all that. We did not scream SURPRISE, which is a good thing because I saw the nervous look on Lil's face. Heh. Lunch all round. Big cake. Photographs. Big stuffed toys that I can never have because I'm allergic. Some newbie waiter dude spilled Sarsi across my back. (*snarl*) Nina bought pirate-style jewellery. Went to watch Pirates. San got relegated to sitting next to Fabian at the very end of the row. I was the only one who cheered really loudly when Captain Jack came on. Hani was spastic, esp during the swordfighting scenes. Lil and I made fools of ourselves giggling over Lt Gillette. Nina made the usual assortment of loud comments. We stayed 'til the very end of the credits and San announced that she'd get nightmares. Meep meep! Had a lovely time, and I'm glad you did too, San. ^_^ [ ] |
